We’ve all heard the saying: “your business is like your baby.” It’s been widely used to magnify the importance of a business. Today, I want to talk about how often I hear starting cleaning business owners (and some established business owners, too) asking how they should run their business or what they they should include in their services, etc. Look, I think it’s important that you get ideas from other business owners, especially if those entrepreneurs have achieved some sort of success with their enterprise. But, you have to remember that your business is yours! In essence, it is your baby! Treat it as such. Those of you who are parents might understand this example a bit better: when we have kids for the very first time we constantly ask others (hopefully we ask others with much more experience) for advice on how to make sure our babies (real babies) are raised healthy and happy. We take their advice – we especially keep the part of their suggestion that works for us and that makes sense for us; we might throw out any other part of their advice that we really didn’t like from the beginning. In other words, we apply the given advice with our own touch. It’s the same with a business. Don’t try to follow the exact same business model or business plan of someone else. Not even mine. You are unique. You and only you can give your cleaning business an element that not I nor anyone else in this world can give your business. Make it yours! Yes, it’s important to model after a successful business. Yes, it’s important to model successful entrepreneurs. And, yes, it’s particularly important to have benchmarks in the beginning phases of your cleaning business, but remember, to give it your touch at the end. That’s the magic of owning your own business. I hope you found this blog post useful. If you did, it would greatly help out if you share it with another cleaning business owner (or another small business owner, in general). I’m on a path to helping 100 cleaning business owners reach their goals before creating any paid content. Your sharing my articles, blogs, and podcast episodes truly helps!
