Guess what, it’s my birthday today. And, I want to celebrate it with you by sharing this quote by William Barclay.
He said: “There are two great days in a person’s life - the day we are born and the day we discover why.”
I don’t know about you, but I find that quote to be powerful. In today’s episode I want to talk about this quote and share with you my why.
But, first I’d like to talk to you about my entrepreneurial journey. Many of you know my story. You know that I got involved in my mom’s cleaning business in an attempt to help her get more customers. Yet, when I think back and review my life I come to the realization that I’ve had the entrepreneurial spirit since I was a kid. Let me explain. You see, ever since I was a kid of about 10 or 11 years old I had these crazy ideas of starting my business. You see, being in a one-parent household was difficult for my mom. I remember, that in order for me to be able to get to school on time, I would have to go clean a home with my mom very early in the morning. Now, granted, what I did was probably of very little help to my mom, but I had no option so I tried my best to help out as much as I could. We would leave our home at about 5:30 am and this allowed her to clean one home and finish up on time so that she could drop me off at school at about 7:30 am. Now, it was while I was with her in these homes - at the young age of about 10 or 11 - that I started realizing that her customers had other home needs. Let me give you an example: I use to help out my mom by sweeping the patio of the homes where she use to clean. And, I thought to myself, “wow these homes get a lot of leaves on their patio. Perhaps, I can tell this customer that I’ll sweep her entire backyard every Saturday and get paid for it!” I guess I still hadn’t grasped the idea or concept that gardners existed, but I remember exactly when I got this ideas when I was about 10 or 11 years old. So, I remember that that same day, after school, I created a flyer on my home computer and printed out. Now, unfortunately, my mom never allowed me to hand those flyers to her customers, but I remember that particular moment very clearly. Now, let’s fast forward to when the whole idea of Cleanerpreneur and The House Cleaning Podcast was born. Some of you might know the story; some might not, but here it is very briefly. I remember a few years ago my family’s cleaning business was undergoing some difficult times and I wanted to help out, again, as much as I could. I was reading or listening to a motivational book or CD at the moment and I came across this quote by Zig Ziglar that says: “You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.” So, I thought to myself: “Why not? Why not try to help other small business owners - particularly house cleaning business owners with what I know?” So, that’s when I set up my page on MicroMentor and created my profile and after just a few days, the questions started pouring in, massively! And, that’s when I realized that many of these questions had a lot in common. They were from people - business owners - who found themselves in one particular situation and wanted to get to another point. So, from there the whole concept and idea of Cleanerpreneur was born. And, it was at that point, you guys, that I discovered my why. I love helping people out. I love being able to provide customers with solutions to their problems and I love helping business owners get from point A to point B. It is my calling. “There are two great days in a person’s life - the day we are born and the day we discover why.” I was born 36 years ago, you guys. And, today, as I celebrate another year on this planet, I thank you for allowing me to do what I love most. You make this all possible. You make my dream come true. I know there are so many of you who are still waiting for me to reply on Instagram and not to mention on MicroMentor - I kid you not, but I must have close to 100 messages, that I haven’t gotten around to replying. But, I will get to them. And, I will do my very best to help you out in any which way I can. Today, I celebrate not just another year of being alive, but another year of being able to do what I love to do. Almost in every episode, I remind you guys to keep striving. And, my birthday wish is that you never stop dreaming. Always keep striving. Hard work, determination, and perseverance can lead you to the world of your dreams. Don’t just work for the sake of it, you guys. Have plans and goals and places to visit and people to meet. The world is an amazing place and there is so much to learn. So, as you work on developing your business to a point where you’ll be able to do the things you truly love, remember to also work on the goals, dreams, your bucket list outside of your business. And, finally, please remember to share your positivity with as many people as you can. I’ve had the great fortune of meeting a lot of motivating individuals, but you know what? Sometimes a simple smile can make someone’s day. I don’t say this to sound cliche or because it’s something popular to say on one’s birthday - but I truly believe that a smile from everyone can lead to a more peaceful world and better life for every individual. To end today’s episode, I’d like to ask you something - maybe it can be my birthday present.
