Do you have a “Start Here” page on your website? If not, then you’ll want to stick around and check out my strategy for newly-committed customers. You see I created a “Start Here” page on our website specifically for those customers who agree to having us cleaning their home. I’ll explain my concept around the “Start Here” page.
Have you ever used a service or gone to a store where it’s your first time and you’re kind of lost? You don’t really know what the procedures are? And, you know, you feel a bit embarrassed to ask “where do I go from here?”. Well, I don’t know about you, but I have! And, you know which are the services and stores and businesses I remember the most? Those who are determined to help me, the consumer, feel like a connoisseur. Those who are prepared to serve first-time customers just as equally as long-time customers.
Here, let me give you an example: when you go to a restaurant, depending on the place, they have a host; someone who welcomes you and makes you feel comfortable and taken care of. That host then shows you and your guests to your table. All in a smooth transition. Can you imagine going into a restaurant, or hiring a service, or going into a store and not knowing what the deal is? Not knowing where you have to sit down with your dinner guests, what happens after you hire a specific service, or not knowing whether a store has a clerk or a self-checkout? Well, these were all situations I thought about when deciding to create my family’s cleaning business website’s “Start Here” page. The “Start Here” page, like I mentioned in the opening of this episode, is specifically for those new customers who have committed to a initial cleaning. The minute I know they confirm the appointment, I text them or email them a confirmation message along with a link to the “Start Here” page on our site. So, what’s on that page? Well, to start off, like I said, there’s an “official” welcome message for that “offical” new customer of ours. It’s a short but warming and welcoming message. Now, you can also include, within that same page, a section that includes what he or she - that’s the new customer - on the day of your first cleaning. You can perhaps talk about the specific tasks that are included in your initial or first-time cleaning; or, perhaps, you can also mention your procedure; answer a few questions that other first-time customers have asked, etc. Remember, you want to make sure they feel familiar with your service even though you have never cleaned their home. Another section you can include in this same page is your guarantee. Remember, I spoke about how vital it is to offer a guarantee to all of your customers - especially first time customers - in order to start getting more repeat customers in episode #42. (If you haven’t listened to that episode, I highly recommend that you do!). So, again, you can remind this newly-committed customer of your guarantee in your “Start Here” page, as well. Finally, another thing you can include in this section of your website is more information about your “Routine Services” or “Regular Services”. You want to start your new customer thinking about how his or her future is going to look like in the new and far future. Mention the benefits of having your cleaning service on a regular basis at their home. A bonus section you can include - and, you might be at this stage or might not, but that’s okay. But, you can include a little bit about how you help out your community or staff as a company. Do you do volunteer work or donate to a specific charity? Well, you might want to include that here, as well. It’ll be great for your new customer to read that you not only provide excellent service in exchange for their money, but that you are also proactive when it comes to giving back. And, again, this isn’t for everyone - it’s not REQUIRED to volunteer or donate as a business, but I know of a lot of small businesses who do. They do so not expecting something in return, but do it because they truly desire to give back. Well, that’s it for today. I’d love to find out if you have a “Start Here” page or something similar.
