Clear Expectations

Thank you!

Thank you for taking your time to check out the "Clear Expectations" template.

If you're here because you heard about this template on the podcast, I owe you an even bigger THANKS!  If you're here because you were browsing around the website and this template title and it's description caught your attention, then I highly recommend you listen to Episode #36: A Hiring Strategy First Step.  In the episode I talk about the importance of being clear and having clear expectations for your current and future employees.  Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Below, you will find the template that I talked about in Episode #36.  Again, it's aim is to help you get started with your hiring process - particularly, your "Clear Expectations" section.  Please let me know if you're having any roadblocks while creating this section.

[Your Cleaning Business Name]
Hiring Process: Step 1 - Clear Expectations
Clear Expectations

[What? You can start off with what you expect from your current/future employees.  For example:]
When it comes to my business this is what I expect from my current/future employee:
  • Arrival on time every morning - [be clear - what does "on time" mean?]
  • A willingness to learn
  • A willingness to follow directions
  • Work diligently in every home
  • Full honesty
  • Etc.

[Where?  You might want to talk about the where of your expectations.  In other words, what kind of environment do you expect your employees to work in?  See the sample below:]
I expect my future/current employee to work in a comfortable environment; one that will make him/her feel safe and secure.  Therefore, I expect my current/future employee to chip in to make sure that our environment is one of mutual respect, harmony, and open to suggestions.

[How] When it comes to my business this is how I expect my current/future employee to get things done:
  • See Training Manual (Reminder: You don't need to write down your working procedures here.  Simply focus on your expectations when it comes to your current or future employees)

[Why} When it comes to my business this is why I expect my current/future employee to excel:
  • See My Cleaning Philosophy and Objective (This is another aspect that I believe you should work on when it comes to your hiring process.  Remember, you are different; your cleaning business is different.  Dedicate some time to formulating your Cleaning Philosophy and Cleaning Objective - these two should be two different documents.)

[When] When it comes to my business it is imperative that my employees uphold these expectations at all times.

Consequences

The following may result in termination:
  • Stealing - Zero tolerance policy
  • Lying
  • Etc.

Please remember...

This is a very basic, very simple example.  I recommend you dedicate a few minutes each day to working on your business development - that includes your systems and policies.  I know how difficult and frustrating  the whole hiring process can be; I've been there.
