The 5 Numbers Every Cleaning Business Owner Should Track Weekly

4/20/2026

Most cleaning business owners stay busy.

But very few stay in control.

They know:

How many jobs they did
How tired they feel
How full their schedule is

But they don’t clearly know:

👉 “Am I actually making good money from this?”

If you’re not tracking the right numbers, you’re making decisions based on feeling — not facts.

The good news?

You don’t need complicated reports.

👉 You just need 5 key numbers, tracked weekly.

1️⃣ Revenue (Total Weekly Income)

This is your top-line number:

👉 How much money did the business generate this week?

Why it matters:

Shows growth trends
Helps set targets
Gives you visibility into performance

But remember:

🚫 Revenue alone doesn’t equal success.

2️⃣ Labor Cost (%)

This is one of the most important numbers in your business.

👉 How much of your revenue goes to paying cleaners?

Example:

Revenue: $5,000
Labor: $3,000
Labor % = 60%

Why it matters:

Directly affects profit
Reveals inefficiency
Helps you price correctly

👉 If this number is too high, you’re working hard for less.

3️⃣ Profit (What You Actually Keep)

This is the number that matters most.

👉 After paying labor and expenses, what’s left?

Why it matters:

Shows if the business is truly working
Determines sustainability
Affects your personal income

Many owners skip this — and assume things are fine.

4️⃣ Number of Jobs Completed

👉 How many cleanings were completed this week?

Why it matters:

Shows workload
Helps measure efficiency
Connects directly to revenue

But this number should always be paired with profit.

More jobs doesn’t always mean better performance.

5️⃣ Average Ticket (Revenue Per Job)

👉 How much are you earning per job on average?

Example:

$5,000 revenue ÷ 25 jobs = $200 average ticket

Why it matters:

Reveals pricing strength
Helps identify underpriced work
Impacts how fast you can grow

👉 Higher average ticket = less work for the same revenue.

Why These 5 Numbers Matter Together

Individually, these numbers help.

Together, they tell the full story.

For example:

High revenue + high labor % = low profit
Many jobs + low average ticket = burnout
Stable jobs + strong ticket + controlled labor = healthy business

What Happens When You Don’t Track

Without these numbers:

❌ You guess pricing
❌ You overwork your team
❌ You accept low-profit jobs
❌ You feel busy but stuck
❌ You miss growth opportunities

How to Start Tracking (Simple System)

You don’t need anything complex.

Start with:

A simple spreadsheet
A weekly check-in (10–15 minutes)
Consistent tracking

That’s it.

👉 Clarity beats complexity.

The Real Goal

These numbers aren’t just for tracking.

They’re for decision-making.

They help you:
✔ Raise prices confidently
✔ Improve efficiency
✔ Remove low-performing work
✔ Grow sustainably

Final Thought

You don’t need more effort.

You need more visibility.

👉 What gets measured gets improved.

Track the right numbers — and your cleaning business becomes easier to understand, manage, and grow.
